Original oil painting on board by listed artist, Franz von Defregger (Germany, 1835 - 1921), signed lower right & dated 1882. Features a happy greeting of Bavarian peasants at a pub with dancing & drinking. Art measures 7" h x 10" w mounted in a frame measuring 12" x 15".

We offer in house shipping for the majority of the items that are sold in the auction. The exceptions being furniture, bulk or heavy items like marble statues or extremely fragile items. For these items, we recommend you work with a shipper. If you live over 4 hours from the auction house, we will assume that you would like your items shipped. Franz Defregger was initially self-taught, from 1862 he studied at the Munich Academy and from 1867 to 1870 worked alongside Hans Makart and Gabriel von Max in the studio of the famous history painter Carl von Piloty. A special highlight in his career was his appointment to the Munich Academy in 1878, where he taught as Piloty's successor until 1910 as a professor of history painting. Finally, in 1883, the already famous artist was raised to the nobility. His work hangs in many famous institutions in Europe including the Louve, Vienna Museum, National Gallery of Berlin, Leipsic Museum, Dresden Gallery, Konigsberg Museum and the Leopold in Vienna.
