Original folk art oil painting on canvas by listed artist, Agapito Labios (Mexico, 1898 - 1996), signed lower left. Features a young girl in dress in the foreground with a strolling couple, landscape & Capultepec Castle in Mexico in the distance. Art measures 23.5" h x 18" w mounted in a frame measuring 28" x 23".

We offer in house shipping for the majority of the items that are sold in the auction. The exceptions being furniture, bulk or heavy items like marble statues or extremely fragile items. For these items, we recommend you work with a shipper. Shipping charges are not included in the winning hammer price. If you live over 4 hours from the auction house, we will assume that you would like your items shipped. Please let us know if you do not want them shipped if you are over 4 hours away from the auction house. The card that you registered with will be charged for all shipping charges and you will also receive an email with tracking information.
After his active role in the Mexican revolution, Labios started his painting career from a jail cell. The mayor of the town saw his paintings, liked them, and ordered him to paint his two little girls. He started selling on Sundays in the Lagunilla (the thieves market) and immediately his fame began to grow. He later had a shop called Mercado de Artesanias at La Ciudadela in Mexico City where his work was sought out by collectors worldwide. Works by Agapito were sold in the sale of Katharine Hepburn's estate on June 10, 2004, at Sotheby's, New York.
