Original oil painting on canvas by listed artist, George Charney (IL, 1907 - 1997), signed lower right and on the verso & dated '64. Art measures 30" h x 24" w mounted in a frame measuring 36" x 31".
Available payment options
We offer in house shipping for the majority of the items that are sold in the auction. The exceptions being furniture, bulk or heavy items like marble statues or extremely fragile items. For these items, we recommend you work with a shipper. Shipping charges are not included in the winning hammer price. If you live over 4 hours from the auction house, we will assume that you would like your items shipped. Please let us know if you do not want them shipped if you are over 4 hours away from the auction house. The card that you registered with will be charged for all shipping charges and you will also receive an email with tracking information.
Charney was a member of the Santa Barbara Artists. He painted many marine and ship pictures, which were sold to many eastern contacts. He loved antiques and in 1934 opened an antique store on Clark Street in Chicago. In the mid 60's Marshall Fields bought the "Daily Sun", and the paper was dissolved. In 1963, George moved to California, where he bought a house on the beach near Santa Barbara. The family still owns the beach house. Over his lifetime, he remodeled over thirty houses.
