Reynolds was essentially self-taught, yet was closely associated with the Attic Studio in Portland for many years. The Attic Studio was composed of numerous Oregon artists who painted and sketched there and learned from one another. A notable project was a book of sketches the artist published in 1980. "Oldtown & Old Timers" included 84 drawings of skid row in Portland, and its residents. The book not only displays his expert drawing capabilities, but is a historical statement. Many of the old buildings he drew have been destroyed. Reynolds was not concerned with selling his art and rarely exhibited during his life. His first one-man show was opened on his 91st birthday in July of 2000.
